Polyps
Although the exact cause of uterine polyps, endrometrial polyps and cervical polyps are unknown, they are definitely influenced by hormones. Uterine, endometrial and cervical polyps are estrogen-sensitive, meaning that they respond to estrogen in the same way that the lining of your uterus does. Therefore they are subject to your monthly hormonal fluctuations. Polyps can cause very painful, irregular periods, bleeding between periods, and can interfere with fertility due to hormonal imbalances as well as a structural inability to carry a pregnancy to term.
Western treatments for polyps include the birth control pill or surgery. While birth controls pills do inhibit estrogen production they do not cure the condition as are only effective while in use. The birth control pill also obviously inhibits conception and poses a problem for fertility. Surgery, on the other had, does remove the polyps but cannot prevent their recurrence.
How Acupuncture Can Help
Acupuncture regulates and normalizes hormone function. This allows your body to naturally heal itself, and also has the effect of decreasing and even reversing polyp growth along the uterine walls and cervix. Acupuncture and herbal treatments can reduce polyp growth and decrease pain and inflammation. If you have already had surgery to remove your polyps, acupuncture and herbs can help prevent their recurrence so that you will be able to conceive naturally.
Treatment with acupuncture and chinese herbs is completely non-invasive. Rather than working from the outside in (and requiring embarrassing/uncomfortable examinations), Chinese medicine works by promoting healing from the inside out.
